If you notice that your engine cranks more slowly or sluggishly than normal when you turn the key, it starts inconsistently, or if there is no sound or interior lights when you try to start, suspect a failing battery, a loose or corroded connection or electrical draw.

Though battery problems are often associated with cold weather, heat is a bigger enemy of car batteries and will take a bigger toll on performance and reserve capacity.  Extreme heat kills batteries and many times in cold climates your battery fails to start your car on a below-freezing day.  Testing a battery’s performance and capacity is not just a matter of seeing whether it will hold a charge, but also to determine what is causing your battery to fail. You need to figure out whether the battery is simply at the end of its life or there are underlying issues, such as a failing alternator, corroded battery cables or ends, or additional draw from auxiliary lights, fuses, sound systems, etc.
